Exol-sponsored cycling team to tackle Ride London
The Exol-sponsored WSCC cycling squad will aim to complete Ride London Essex this weekend (29th May), a 100-mile mass participation cycle sportive.
WSCC will take to the roads of London and Essex over a 100-mile route that starts on Victoria Embankment, before taking in rolling Essex countryside, before returning to London and finishing at the iconic Tower Bridge.
The team is made up of Exol Lubricants’ export sales manager Paul Eastwood, plus Jack Appleton, Andy Turner, Pete Tickle, Simon Newbegin and Adam Ferguson, and was launched in 2020 during the first coronavirus pandemic lockdown, as a means to keep the team active and fit.
Paul Eastwood, export sales manager at Exol Lubricants and WSCC member, said: “We’re really looking forward to the challenge of completing 100 miles but also the chance to ride out as a group once more. Having these events to look forward to really focuses the mind and gives us the motivation we need to get back on the bikes, just as we did during Covid, and look after our physical and mental health.”
The team is supported by Exol with the lubricants company purchasing the team jerseys when the group first started out in 2020. Exol Lubricants’ branding appears on the backs of the WSCC team kit.
In 2021 the WSCC squad completed the Sea-to-Sea challenge (C2C), cycling from Whitehaven in Cumbria to Tynemouth in North Tyneside, raising money for three charities: The Alzheimer’s Society, The Christie Cancer Charity and MIND, and taking in two arduous 600m climbs up Hartside and Nenthead.
