First-place finish for Powell Motorsport in the BTRC
Exol-sponsored Powell Motorsport finished the British Truck Racing Championship (BTRC) season in style, after claiming the top spot in Division Two.
This year, the drivers were forced to adapt to ongoing alterations due to ever-changing measures brought about by the pandemic. But that didn’t stop Powell Motorsport, who found success in all three races, achieving four wins and a second-place finish at Donnington, a first, second and three fourth-placed finishes at Snetterton, before seeing out the season with three wins and a second-place finish at Thruxton, crowning him the winner of Division Two, with a 25-point lead.
The teams were forced to reduce to teams of six, with minimal spectators and people in the paddocks, to maximise health and safety. It was a season of firsts for the BTRC though, as live streaming was introduced, with thousands of people who were unable to attend tuning in to watch the exhilarating performances.
The MAN truck was fitted with a new cab last year, including a whole new cooling system, which proved all the difference on the track. It uses Exol’s Taurus Euro 10W-40, enabling the truck to benefit from a higher performance while keeping the engine cool, providing greater thermal stability.
Just recently, the truck has also been fitted with newly refurbished shock absorbers and calipers.
The unusual season saw all classes racing all together on the same track in their separate divisions, with Powell Motorsport often finishing before some of his Division One counterparts.
Steve Powell, Powell Motorsport’s driver, said: “It was a very unusual and unpredictable season, but I’m delighted to have come out on top and finish the season in such great form. It’s a credit to the hard work and hours that my team have put in over the course of the year.
“I’d like to thank Exol for its support in 2020. As ever, their oil absolutely gave me the edge and I always receive such brilliant service. I’m now firmly focusing on the next season, where hopefully things will be looking a lot different. There are already exciting plans in process, with big news expected to be released in the next few months, so fans should watch this space.”
Exol’s commercial vehicle lubricants range satisfies the needs of the most modern trucks and buses as well as older models. The exhaustive range features low SAPS, fully synthetic engine oils, long drain semi synthetics and traditional mineral oil grades as well as sophisticated automatic transmission fluids, manual gear oils and ancillary products.
