Sutton Coldfield resident aims to raise over £1100 for Cancer Research

Sutton Coldfield resident Fiona Dunn, is aiming to raise more than £1100 for Cancer Research having completed the Shine Night Walk 26-mile marathon in London recently.

The Shine Night Walk, which took place on 23 September, began at 10.30pm at Southwark Park in London with around 17,000 participants undertaking a 26-mile route passing key landmarks such as Buckingham Palace & London Eye, before finishing at Old Billingsgate.

Shineis Cancer Research UK’s marathon night walk, bringing people from across the UK together to light up London and fund life-saving research.

Fiona initially set a fundraising target of £300 but thanks to support received from friends, family, Lloyds bank and leading West Midlands based oil supplier Exol Lubricants, she is determined to raise more than £1100 for the charity.

Following weeks of training, much of which intensified in the three weeks leading up to the walk, Fiona completed the challenge in nine hours and was part of a group of twelve other local mums from Moor Hall School. They got involved in the challenge as they were all determined to give something back to those in the local community suffering from cancer, after witnessing family and friends fighting their own battles with the illness.

Fiona said: “It felt amazing overcoming this personal test while raising money for such a fantastic cause. I certainly threw myself in at the deep end but I was determined to reach the finish line. The atmosphere was great and during the walk you could see the lights of other participants stretching out into the distance, inspiring you to continue.

“The support from friends, family, local community and businesses has been unbelievable and I would like to say a massive thank you to all those who donated.”
